As they spent a shortened week of practice preparing to face Bald Eagle Area on Friday, Coach John Franco and the Tyrone football team may have felt like they were jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
The Golden Eagles were forced to play undefeated Central on Monday after lightning and the threat of storms had postponed the game twice, and the Dragons challenged Tyrone in many ways, none bigger than sheer athleticism. Central was fast and strong, and ultimately the Eagles didn’t match up well at all, losing by mercy rule 42-7.
Now, on a short week, they’ll travel to Wingate to face a team that mirrors Central quite closely. And as was demonstrated last season when Bald Eagle Area came to Gray-Veterans Memorial Field and blew the doors off Tyrone, their athleticism is as good as any team around and difficult for Tyrone to match.
