Rams visit Tyrone in rematch of weird game

Tyrone coach John Franco can still remember the fourth quarter of last year’s loss in Spring Mills to Penns Valley.

If ever there was a time for the veteran coach to think the universe was conspiring against him, this was it. Tyrone went into the final frame up 21-7 and more or less in control, before Jackson Romig went off.

The Penns Valley signal caller threw for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and made play after play to boost his team. On one fourth down conversion that ultimately led to a score, Romig seemingly threw the ball straight up in the air to avoid a sack; his team got the jump ball and went on to score. A kickoff went between the legs of a Tyrone receiver, putting the Eagles deep inside their own territory. A touchdown pass that looked an awful lot like a dropped pass was called a score.

There were countless things that went wrong, but when looking back a year later Franco doesn’t blame the stars or fate. Instead, he takes the only view that could help his team avoid a similar outcome Friday when the Rams visit Gray-Veterans Memorial Field for Homecoming.
