It’s not often you would look at a game in Week 7 against a winless team as a trap game, but if ever there was one the Tyrone Golden Eagles are looking at it this week.
Tyrone travels to War Vets Field Friday to face the 0-6 Huntingdon Bearcats. It’s a game the Golden Eagles need to have if they’re going to make a push down the stretch to solidify a spot in the District 6 3A playoffs, and it’s one that begins a month of October highlighted by three games where Tyrone will face opponents who, as of yet, have not won a game in 2024.
The ‘Cats have had their troubles this season. Along with surrendering at least 30 points in all but one game, they’re scoring fewer than 15 each time out. As they’ve been mercy ruled three times, many of those scores are happening deep in games, after the final outcome has been determined.
All of those markers signal favorably for the Golden Eagles, but there’s another indicator beneath the surface that could make this a much tougher game than you might expect when looking at the teams on paper. When it comes down to it, four of the Bearcats’ losses are to the same four teams Tyrone has fallen to, and in head-to-head comparisons the point differentials are strikingly similar.
