Last Time Out: TYRONE –defeated Huntingdon 41-21 at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field behind a season-high 457 yards in total offense. The Eagles had it working on both the ground and through the air, starting with Caleb Whitby, who ran for a season-high 200 yards and 4 touchdowns on 29 carries. Eli Woomer got back on track, completing 12 of 18 passes for 200 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown in the second quarter to Dylan Robinson. Tyrone went ahead 35-7 with a score on its first possession of the third quarter before surrendering 14 straight points but closed out the game with a 3-yard run by Eli Woomer in the fourth quarter on the heels of an interception by Mason Emigh. PENN CAMBRIA – defeated Chestnut Ridge 28-7 in Cresson thanks to a strong second-half performance that saw the Panthers score 21 unanswered points to break open what had been a 7-7 tie at halftime. Ridge led 7-0 and had a chance to go up 10-0 before the and of the first half before missing a field goal. Brady Jones then evened the score with a 35-yard pass to Grant Gides. A touchdown pass in the third quarter from Evan Latterner to Blake Lily put the Panthers in front for good, but not before the Lions drove inside the PC red zone, only to have Corbin VInglish thwart the drive with an interception. Jones completed 9 of 14 passes for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns. Vinglish led the running game with 45 yards and another score.

Series: Tyrone and Penn Cambria have faced each other 7 times, with each of those contests coming in the District 6 playoffs. The Golden Eagles won the first four, including a 20-14 victory in the 3A semifinals in 2020 and a 47-30 victory in the 2A quarterfinals in 2005 in which Tyrone trailed 30-18 at halftime. Penn Cambria has won the last two, including a 39-13 win in last year’s District 6 3A title game.

Last Meeting: Tyrone led 14-8 at halftime but couldn’t keep Penn Cambria’s do-everything senior Gavin Harrold from breaking the game open in the second half of a 39-14 loss in the District 6 3A championship at Mansion Park Stadium on Friday, November 8, 2024.

Tyrone built its lead on a 25-yard run by Ashton Walk and a 15-yard pass to Trent Adams, but by then the Panthers had yet to fully utilize Harrold. That changed in the third quarter, when he scored on Penn Cambria’s first series with a 36-yard reception to put the Eagles down 16-14 and then delivered a knockout blow, scooping up a Tyrone fumble and going 34 yards to make it 24-14. Harrold finished with 39 rushing yards and 122 receiving yards, scoring 4 of the Panthers’ 5 touchdowns. Walk completed 18 of 29 passes for 211 yards, in the process going over 3,000 yards for the season.
