Series: Tyrone first played Philipsburg High in 1923, battling to a 20-20 tie in the third year of high school football in the borough. Osceola Mills joined the schedule in 1927, and Tyrone never lost to the school, with just one game – a 0-0 tie in 1931 – ending in a draw. Philipsburg and Osceola Mills merged in 1954, and the first game between the Eagles and Philipsburg-Osceola took place the next season in 1955, with Tyrone winning 7-0.
The Golden Eagles have dominated the series, but there have been quite a few memorable matchups. In 1987 the teams met in an epic Homecoming clash at Gray memorial Field and the teams were tied 7-7 until Bill Kimberling pulled in a tipped Hail Mary pass in the endzone with no time remaining to end a thrilling game that propelled Tyrone to its first District 6 championship. In 2004, playing at Memorial Field in Philipsburg, the Mounties blocked a PAT kick late after Tyrone had scored to cut a 7-0 lead to 7-6 and went on to take the win, snapping a 10-game losing streak to the Eagles. Tyrone would win the rematch in the District 6 semifinals and ultimately played in the PIAA Western final.
The teams have played three times in the postseason, with Tyrone winning all three.
The Golden Eagles lead the overall series with 44 wins and 26 losses against Philipsburg-Osceola. Adding the wins over Philipsburg and Osceola Mills, Tyrone leads 81-31 with five games ending in ties.
