Last Time Out: TYRONE –defeated Philipsburg-Osceola 28-7 at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field, using big plays as the antidote for the Mounties’ ground-and-pound offense. The Eagles scored on four plays of 26 yards or more, including a pick-6 in the fourth quarter by Ashton Emigh and a 90-yard kickoff return in the third by Caleb Whitby. The Mounties ran 63 plays to Tyrone’s 25, but they were only able to punch in one touchdown to end a 39-yard drive in the third quarter. Whitby led Tyrone with 75 yards on 10 carries, including a 35-yard run in the first quarter that opened the scoring. Mason Emigh ended the first half with a 26-yard touchdown reception from Ben Walk. Colton Chapman was dominant for P-O, rushing for 161 yards on 32 carries, but the Mounties struggled finishing drives and turned the ball over four times, two on interceptions by Eli Woomer. CHESTNUT RIDGE – snapped a two-game losing streak by overpowering Westmont Hilltop in a 55-15 victory in Westmont. The Lions did most of their damage with a powerful running attack that produced 377 yards. Cooper Barefoot led the charge, gaining 133 yards and scoring twice on just six carries. Cameron Hillegass and Jayden Imler each rushed for 87 yards and accounted for three more touchdowns. Chestnut Ridge led 28-0 at halftime after exploding for 21 points in the second quarter and 48-15 by the end of the third.

Series: The series between Tyrone and Chestnut Ridge is brief, and the games generally take place near the end of the season or in the postseason and almost always come with significant implications. The teams first met in 1997 in the District 5-6 2A playoffs, with Tyrone winning the quarterfinal game 41-6. They would play again in the quarterfinals almost a decade later, with the Eagles winning 35-0 in 2006. Two regular season wins for Tyrone followed in 2014 and 2015 before the Lions grabbed a pair of wins in 2016 and 2017.

Last season, Tyrone used a 35-34 victory over the Lions in the LHAC Week 10 crossover game as the springboard for a run into the District 6 playoffs.

Last Meeting: In a game that began as a track meet in the first half, Tyrone steadied its defense over the second and third quarters and rode big plays from Ashton Walk and Seth Hoover to deliver a 35-34 victory over Chestnut Ridge at Giovacchini Stadium on Friday, October 25, 2024.

The Lions had totaled 273 yards in the first half and scored on all 5 of their possessions to take a 28-20 lead at halftime, but in the second half Tyrone’s defense did the job, limiting Ridge to 61 yards and one touchdown with 2:07 to play on a 1-yard run by Hayden Webb. But on the PAT attempt, Eli Woomer blocked the kick, allowing the Eagles to escape with a win that wrapped up the 3 seed in the District 6 3A playoffs.

Walk completed 27 of 39 passes for 301 yards and the game-winning score to Tyler Weston in the fourth quarter. Hoover had tied the game with a 29-yard run in the third, after which Woomer threw to Weston for the PAT on a fake-kick.

Tyrone rolled up 449 yards of total offense, including 92 rushing yards and 68 receiving yards from Hoover.
