Each week of preparation during a high school football season takes on a different complexion, but in general you could think of them in two ways.
Some weeks are X’s and O’s weeks, where the minute execution of every play is important to the outcome of the game. Others are weeks to get better, and exactly what “better” means could vary.
Tyrone’s preparation for Jeff Vroman-coached Philipsburg-Osceola, which comes to Gray-Veterans Memorial Field Friday with a 1-1 record, falls into the latter category. The Golden Eagles’ focus this week has been not on refining any specific play or package of plays but on simply improving an offense Coach John Franco thinks could be a pretty good one.
“We know we can play better on offense,” Franco said. “We know that we can throw the ball and run the ball better than we’ve done. And the kids know that, so they’re motivated at practice to get better.”
