Last Time Out: TYRONE – fell 37-14 to Bellwood-Antis in the Backyard Brawl at Memorial Stadium. Tyrone turned the ball over three times in the second quarter and each one led to Blue Devil points as B-A got the mercy rule in effect by halftime. Jackson Dorminy returned an interception 65 yards for a score to get things going, and he came away with another pick and a fumble recovery before the quarter was done. His last takeaway led to a Miles Smearman field goal that made it 37-0. The Devils ran for 247 yards, led by Bradyn Partner’s 94. Mason Emigh and Kaden Kustenbauder scored fourth-quarter touchdown for Tyrone. BISHOP GUILFOYLE – knocked off undefeated Central 42-7 at Mansion Park. The Marauders led 13-7 heading into the fourth quarter before dropping 29 points in the final frame to win going away. Quarterback Justin Wheeler passed for 122 yards and ran for 128, while Keegan Hewitt rushed for 136 yards on 23 carries. The duo combined for 4 rushing touchdowns. Wheeler also threw for a touchdown to Evan Schimminger, who finished with 6 catches for 119 yards. Defensively, the Marauders limited Central to just 68 yards on the ground.
Series: Bishop Guilfoyle and Tyrone have played each other 17 times in a series that dates back to 1966, when the Golden Eagles topped the Marauders 32-16. BG became a regular opponent for the Golden Eagles in the 70s, when the teams played six times from 1975 through 1980, with Guilfoyle winning four times. The series then went on hold for 23 years until the Marauders joined the Mountain Athletic Conference in 2003. The Golden Eagles won four in a row, limiting BG to just 20 points over 16 quarters, but after 2006 the teams wouldn’t play again until 2023 after Tyrone had joined the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference. The Golden Eagles won the first meeting 28-27 after stopping the Marauders on a late two-point conversion attempt, but since then BG has won two in a row. Jack Gioiosa opened the scoring for BG with a 10-yard reception from Justin Wheeler in the second quarter, and Carter Boland extended the lead with a 41-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Rocco Cacciotti got it to 12-0 early in the third when he dropped Caleb Whitby for a safety before Connor Okonak and Keegan Hewitt added fourth quarter touchdowns to set the final.
The Marauders outgained 238-47 on the ground, led by Jake Kissell’s 116 yards on 20 carries. Cacciotti, meanwhile, had six tackles for loss to help BG limit Tyrone to fewer than 100 yards in total offense.
