Last Time Out: TYRONE – lost to Bishop Guilfoyle 44-14 at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field on Homecoming. It was Tyrone’s second straight loss by 23 or more points. It was 28-7 in the third quarter when the Eagles cut the score in half with another Emigh touchdown reception, but the Marauders finished strong, with two more rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Marauders had two backs run for more than 100 yards and finished with 332 yardson the ground. Walk had his best day as a passer, completing 16 of 28 passes for 248 yards. Reese Hughes was there to scoop up the loose pigskin and run 98 yards for a score that made it 29-20. The ‘Cats cut the lead to 2 with 1:31 left when Hughes hit Cole Lane for a 31-yard score, but Huntingdon was unable to come away with the onsides kick. Series: Tyrone and Huntingdon will be facing each other for the 97th time in a series that dates back to 1922, Tyrone’s second season of scholastic football following a 24-year ban that had begun in 1897. The schools became rivals almost immediately, and both spent the early part of the Twentieth Century battling for supremacy in the Western Conference. In 1940, it was Tyrone’s Thanksgiving Day win over the ‘Cats that earned the Eagles the conference title and sent Tyrone to the CPHSFL title game. Afterwards, Tyrone fans tore down a wooden goalpost at what is now War Vets Field, brought it back to the borough, and burned it as part of a bonfire at a celebration that lasted long into the night. But in just a few short years, following the1942 season, Huntingdon opted off the Eagles’ schedule after officials from Tyrone cried foul over what they perceived as overly rough play by the Bearcats. They returned in 1946, and the series has gone on uninterrupted since then.
Fittingly, both teams won their first District 6 championships at the other’s expense. For the ‘Cats, it came in 1986, when Huntingdon scored a third quarter touchdown on a pass from Tom Hudy to Matt Elder that accounted for all the scoring in a 6-0 win at Golden Tiger Stadium. The next season, in 1987, Tyrone returned the favor, using a halfback throwback pass from John Supina to Tom Getz to down Huntingdon 20-19 at War Vets Field.
The teams have faced off six times in the postseason, splitting the games 3-3.
As with playoff games, the overall series is tied, with both teams having won 46 times. Four games have ended in ties.
Coaches: TYRONE – Jason Jones (3-3, 1st season); HUNTINGDON – Tim Lucko (10-26, 4th season)
Last Meeting: Huntingdon’s turnaround season in 2025 was capped by a major turnaround win over Tyrone in the District 6 3A playoffs. The Bearcats jumped on Tyrone early and stunned the Golden Eagles with a 42-7 mercy rule victory at War Vets Field on October 31, 2025, a game played just four weeks after the Eagles had dropped Huntingdon 42-21 in the regular season.
Cole Lane got things rolling with a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown on Tyrone’s first series, which had actually penetrated as far as the 23, but the knockout blow came on the ensuing drive, when Gavin Norris blocked a punt that was recovered by Luke Mykut at the 17. Four plays later Landon Erdman scored to make it 13-0.
Huntingdon had run 7 offensive plays and led by two touchdowns.
Erdman went on to run for 145 yards and two more touchdowns, including one on a 52-yard jaunt in the fourth quarter.
The ‘Cats’ defense forced five punts and limited Tyrone to 84 rushing yards.
