Last Time Out: TYRONE – defeated Penn Cambria 17-14 at Gray Veterans Memorial Field. The Golden Eagles trailed 6-3 in the fourth quarter before two big runs by Reid Starr set up a 1-yard go-ahead touchdown run by Ben Walk. Walk later connected with Mason Emigh on a 35-yard touchdown on the heels of a Jon Stroup interception to make it 17-6. The Panthers added a late score with two minutes to play, but the Golden Eagles were able to recover the onsides kick and run out the clock. Starr finished with 123 yards on the ground to lead Tyrone. The Panthers had two backs (Evan Latterner and Corbin Vinglish) go over 100 yards, but the Panthers failed to convert on two of their four trips inside the Golden Eagles’ 11. PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA – lost to Bishop McCort 43-38 in Philipsburg. The game was tight into the fourth quarter with McCort ahead 35-30 when Crusher quarterback Bentley Bainey broke off a 60-yard touchdown run to give his team the two-touchdown advantage. Connor Guenot led the Mounties, who ran for 347 yards, with 128 yards and a touchdown on 6 carries, while Demarcus Law added 103 yards and two more scores on 9 tries. The loss was the third straight for the Mounties, while McCort logged the program’s 600th win.

Series: Tyrone began playing Philipsburg High School in 1923 and in one form or another the Mounties have remained on the Golden Eagles’ schedule since 1927. Osceola Mills entered the schedule that same season, and in 23 games Tyrone went 21-1-1 the Indians, with its only loss coming in 1950.

Things were a little different against the Mounties, who managed three wins against the Eagles before the schools merged in 1954.

Three years after consolidation, Philipsburg-Osceola ran off a four-game winning streak against Tyrone from 1957 through 1960. From there, it remained a back-and-forth series until the mid-1990s, when under John Franco the Golden Eagles began a string of success against the Mounties that included a 10-game winning streak from 1995 through 2003.

P-O pulled the upset of Franco’s career in the regular season in 2004, defeating the Golden Eagles 7-6 at Memorial Field before losing to Tyrone in the District 6 2A semifinals that same season, 34-0.

Since then, the Eagles have won 19 in a row. Their 14-13 comeback win in 2007 allowed Tyrone to break a school record for consecutive regular season victories with 30 straight.

The teams have faced each other in the postseason three times, with Tyrone holding a 3-2 lead.

The Golden Eagles lead the overall series against Philipsburg-Osceola with 45 wins and 26 losses.

Coaches: TYRONE – Jason Jones (4-4, 1st season); PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA – Jeff Vroman (79-114 in 19 seasons at PO)

Last Meeting: Caleb Whitby scored two touchdowns and ran for 75 yards, and Tyrone’s defense picked off PO quarterback Warren Raftery four times in the Golden Eagles’ 28-7 victory over the Mounties at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Whitby’s biggest score of the night came in the third quarter after PO had cut Tyrone’s 14-0 lead in half on a run by Colton Chapman. Whitby took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown that restored a two-score lead. Ashton Emigh sealed the win four minutes into the third quarter with a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Mounties held the edge on the ground, outrushing Tyrone 162-117, but along with the four turnovers they also committed 10 penalties, which contributed to their struggles finishing out drives.

Chapman led PO with 161 yards on 32 carries.

Eli Woomer fronted Tyrone’s defensive attack with a pair of interceptions. Offensively, Mason Emigh had 3 receptions for 69 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass from Ben Walk with 46 seconds left in the first half that gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead at halftime.
