If you look at Penns Valley’s Marty Tobias and all you see is a football coach, you’re missing the point.
In his 27 years walking the sidelines in Spring Mills, Tobias has turned out some good teams and some good players, including Josh Hull, who played five seasons in the NFL. In 2018 his team went 9-4 and followed it up a season later with a 10-2 finish.
But to the players he tutors, Tobias is much more than just a football coach, and that is the way Tobias, who is now in his 34th year coaching football, would want it.
We had a chance to speak with Tobias in the days leading up to 6-1 Tyrone’s game against the 5-2 Rams on the road Friday, and the coach talked about his program’s relatively new explosive offense, his near-release in 2015, and the impact his program has on the lives of young men.
